About Me
- Nicole Atkins
- My name is Nicole Atkins and I am currently employed as a ninth grade English teacher. I have been teaching for thirteen years and have taught all grade levels from grade six through twelve. I am married to John Keith Atkins who is a sixth grade math teacher. He also works part-time as a reading instructor at Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, North Carolina. I am an only child and have a very close relationship with my parents. Keith and I are originally from East Tennessee and met at East Tennessee State University. (Go Bucs!) We will celebrate our eleventh wedding anniversary in July. We are the proud parents of two rebellious cats named Andy and Helen. Their names were based upon the personalities of the characters from the Andy Griffith Show. The four of us recently bought our first home and are enjoying all of the daily "challenges" which frequently arise. I enjoy spending time traveling, attending plays, watching movies, and of course reading!! I am looking forward to graduating this summer with a degree in Elementary Education from A.S.U. However, I am most excited about the birth of my god-daughter, Nancy in May.

Wow! The juxtaposition of opposites with the question of your life’s song-it is brilliant and evocative; I read this poem many times; you are a gifted writer Nicole; the presentation and arrangement of the words really move the reader; I am in AWE!
Your I Poem is both engaging and informative; your graceful writing style implores the reader to listen and “pay attention.” I love it! I appreciate the many references and explanations to King’s speeches. But I am most impressed by your ability to explain each stanza; you never left a loose thread hanging in your heroic quilt of peace! Bravo!
